The work focused on the careful restoration and preservation of the existing Visitors Center and surrounding historic site. Improvements included replacement of the building’s roof with new gutters, downspouts, and underground drainage to protect the structure from water intrusion, as well as interior repairs to restore and maintain the building’s functionality. Two deteriorated porches were demolished and reconstructed to maintain the architectural character of the facility while improving structural integrity. Site upgrades included installation of new drainage piping, resurfacing and striping of existing paved areas with new concrete curb and gutter, remediation of pathways to meet ADA accessibility requirements, and replacement of rail and picket fencing to restore the site’s historic appearance. Because the property is a designated archaeological site, construction activities were carefully managed to minimize ground disturbance, and protective measures were implemented throughout the project to preserve both the historic structure and the surrounding landscape. Additionally, prior to upgrading site work, The R&S team worked with the State of Tennessee to restore existing roofs on historical building replicas.
